New Steel Structure Design Standard Officially Implemented

Recently, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development officially released GB 50017-2026, "Standard for Steel Structure Design." The new standard sets higher requirements for key performance indicators of construction steel, including strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance. It encourages the use of high-strength steels, such as low-alloy high-strength structural steels in grades Q460 and Q500, to reduce steel consumption and lower building self-weight. Additionally, the standard provides clear specifications for supporting products like welding materials and anti-corrosion coatings. Industry experts state that implementing the new standard will drive the development of steel structure buildings toward lighter weight and longer service life, while raising expectations for product quality and service levels among steel suppliers.
